February 2022 Newsletter

From the Desk of
the Grand Knight

Council Meeting
Thursday, February 10th, 2022 – 7:00 PM

Brother Knights,

As we approach the Lenten season, this is a time for reflection and a time to prepare for Easter.  During this time of year within the church, there are rituals and time-honored traditions that are conducted to symbolize the scripture accounts of Jesus’s life.  The 40 days of Lent are representative of the 40 days that Jesus spent in the wilderness.  The Lenten season starting March 2nd on Ash Wednesday and continues through Holy Thursday.  Lent is a season of solemnity and sacrifice commemorating Jesus’ exodus into the desert.  With all this snow, we can retreat to our homes and reflect on your faith and your loved ones.  Upon reflection, it will be clear what is truly important in your life and you can live your best life in preparation for the resurrection of Jesus Christ.  Pray that by Easter the snow will be melted away and we can get back to living outside in the sun.

The building association will have fish fry dinners throughout the Lenten Season.  Please come down for a dinner or volunteer your talents, we would love to have your support.  Over the course of this Lenten season, we will be collecting moneys for various local charities.  Please be generous and help us make a difference in the lives of others that are not as fortunate.  This is why we are Knights, to help the community and give back in any way we can.  I continue to be impressed with the support that our membership and our community offer, so many people donating their time or making donations when they are down at the dinners.  Please thank our volunteers if you come down to the club for a dinner or if you see them in the community.  We are making a difference in the community as an organization and it is definitely needed at this time.

KofC 706 Receives Columbian Award

Editor’s note: Matt was too humble to add this, but I thought you should know. Our Council has received the Columbian Award for 2021. This award is for our Council doing volunteer or monetary activities in at least 20 areas of Charity, Unity, Fraternity and Patriotism, our Orders principles. The photo is our District Deputy, Jeff VanNatter presenting the award at out last meeting. This is something our entire Council should be proud of. This is because of Matt’s great leadership and member volunteers.

I would ask that you add into your prayers, that God may guide our leaders and all of us to make the place we live in better than the day before.  I believe that all of us can make a difference, especially in our own community, it starts with each one of us.

Council meetings will be the second Thursday of each month and everybody is welcome and encourage to join us for our monthly meeting.  This month our council meeting will be on February 10th @ 7 pm.

I hope all Brother Knights and their families are doing well, but for those that are going through tough times please pray for them.  See the members in need on the website and keep them in your prayers.

From the Editors Desk

We are still looking for more of our Brothers’ email addresses. We will continue to print the Bulletin for a few brothers who do not have email. If you know of any brother Knight or spouses who would like to get the online notifications, please get their email addresses to me. We have saved quite a bit on printing costs because of converting to the online method.

Happy Groundhogs Day, I, for one, don’t want him to see that shadow!

Joke(s) of the Month

For Presidents’ Month

President Lincoln had a disarming and engaging ability to laugh at himself, especially his own physical appearance. When Senator Stephen A. Douglas once called him a ‘two-faced man’ Lincoln responded,” I leave it to my audience. If I had another face, do you think I would wear this one?”

Another time Lincoln told a group of editors about meeting a woman riding on horseback in the woods. She “looked at me intently and said,” I do believe you are the ugliest man I ever saw’ Said I,” Madam, you are probably right, but I can’t help it”. ”No”, Said she, ”you can’t help it, but you might stay at home.”

Although his likeness is widely recognized, Lincoln is not known primarily for his appearance, but for his courageous stance for restoration of the union and the abolition of slavery. He is often held up as an example of remarkable patience, determination, dedication, strong will, compassion, thoughtfulness and selflessness. These inner qualities are what mark Lincoln as one of America’s greatest president.

So much is made in our culture today of outward appearance and material possessions. We do well to remember that it is our virtuous inner qualities that create a lasting reputation.

PRAYER: Heavenly Father, in this world where people give more importance to the outward appearance, let me not feel sad if I am not recognized or appreciated for my beauty or physique. Let me have the inner beauty of a good character and please you in all my ways.  Amen.

At the Watergate Hotel

A pair of honeymooners checked into the Watergate Hotel in Washington, D.C. That night, as the husband was about to turn off the light, his bride asked, “Do you think this room is bugged?”

“That was a long time ago, sweetheart,” he reassured her.

“But what if there’s a microphone somewhere? I’d be so embarrassed.”

So, the groom searched under tables and behind pictures. Then he turned back the rug.

Sure enough, there was a funny-looking gismo in the floor. He took out the screws, got rid of the hardware, and climbed into bed.

The next morning the newlyweds were awakened by a hotel clerk who wanted to know if they had slept well. “We did,” replied the groom. “Why do you ask?”

“It’s rather unusual,” the clerk answered. “Last night the couple in the room below yours had a chandelier fall on them.”

A NIce, Calm, Respectable Lady…

A nice, calm, and respectable lady went into the pharmacy, walked up to the pharmacist, looked straight into his eyes, and said, “I would like to buy some cyanide.”

The pharmacist asked, “Why in the world do you need cyanide?”

The lady replied, “I need it to poison my husband.”

The pharmacist’s eyes got big and he exclaimed, “Lord have mercy! I can’t give you cyanide to kill your husband. Absolutely not! You CANNOT have any cyanide!”

The lady reached into her purse and pulled out a picture of her husband in bed with the pharmacist’s wife.

The pharmacist looked at the picture and said, “You didn’t tell me you had a prescription.”
