the Grand Knight

Council Meeting
Thursday, June 12th – 7:30 PM

Greetings fellow brothers of Council 706:

This past week, our worthy recorder, Marc Soles and I represented 706 at the State Convention on Mackinaw Island.     As always, it was a wonderful meeting and the Living Rosary on Thursday was very special.    Overall, the health and membership of the Knights of Columbus in Michigan is very strong and growing.     As always, through your life and interactions with other Catholic men, please consider a discussion with them on becoming a KC member.    Council 706 needs young men to join!!    Becoming a member is easier than ever and if you want information on the Knights membership, please contact me or your next Grand Knight who starts in July, Eric Bollman.

The unwritten rule within the Knights is that the positions held on the council are for a 2-year period and my position as Grand Knight will be up at the end of June.     I will remain on the council as a Trustee, however.     It has been a fulfilling 2 years as your Grand Knight and there have been numerous things we as a council have done to help the community.      The largest of which was the Coats for Kids fundraiser and distribution.       Hopefully we put warm coats on many people in our community who really needed them.

Paul Price has agreed to assume the role of Financial Secretary from Steve DeWall starting in July.     Steve has done a fantastic job, and I would like to thank him for all his dedication and work.   Thank you, Steve!

I would also like to thank Josh Bisson for taking over the role/responsibly of our monthly newsletter from Denny Chandonett.    Josh takes the Grand Knight report along with that of the Building Association and compiles them with other club related news and events each month and sends them out to the entire membership.     Josh, thank you for your excellent work and stepping up when the club needed you!

Council 706 is still looking for a Deputy Grand Knight, however.     This position helps the Grand Knight but also is under the agreement that he will be the next Grand Knight 2 years later.     If you feel as though you would like to discuss this position, please contact me at 616-402-8555.     During the July meeting, there will be an induction of officers.

Doug Zuidema, Council 706 Grand Knight

From the Editors Desk

This month I’d like to share an email I received from Barb Langlois. Please see below….

Several of the KC’s women volunteer at the Catholic Charities Baby Pantry .  They are in desperate need of Toddler summer clothing, (especially boys ).  Your donation of clean, gently used clothing would be so appreciated. You may drop off at KC’s….please mark outside of bag Baby Pantry. The women will take care of it from there..

Jokes and Reflections

Joke this month :

A teenage girl had been talking on her phone for about half an hour, and then she hung up.

“Wow!” said her father, “That was short. You usually talk for two hours or more. What happened?”

“Wrong number…” replied the girl.
