From the Desk of
the Grand Knight
Council Meeting
Thursday, March 13th – 7:30 PM
Fellow 706 Knights of Columbus members:
We are fast approaching the Lenten season, and I found a quote from Pope Francis that is particularly impactful for myself. Hopefully, you find his words helpful in your Lenten journey:
“This Lent, God is asking us to examine whether in our lives, in our families, in the places where we work and spend our time, we are capable of walking together with others, listening to them, resisting the temptation to become self-absorbed and to think only of our own needs,”
- Pope Francis’ Message for Lent 2025
The three pillars of Lent—prayer, fasting and almsgiving—serve as guideposts on this 40-day journey. Prayer, in particular, holds a special place in this season of repentance and renewal. Whether you are new to praying or seeking a deeper prayer life, Lent offers a perfect invitation to begin wherever you are.
Some Bible verses for Lent include:
- 1 Peter 5:6-7
“Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time”
- Joel 2:12-14
“Even now,” declares the Lord, “return to me with all your heart, with fasting, with weeping, and with mourning”
- Isaiah 58:6
“Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen: to loose the chains of injustice and untie the cords of the yoke, to set the oppressed free and break every yoke?”
- Psalm 42:2
“My soul thirsts for God, for the living God”
- Psalm 6
A penitential psalm where the psalmist expresses sorrow for sin and asks for forgiveness
- John 14:6
“I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me”
Fish Fry’s will begin on Ash Wednesday and will continue each Friday during the Lenten season. We will be serving Great Lakes Perch and will have our Muskegon-Famous Onion Rings will be available as well. Please come and enjoy a wonderful fish dinner from 5-7:30. Takeouts will also be available.

Jokes and Reflections
Joke this month :
No Chances:
A man, his wife and his mother-in-law were visiting the Holy Land.
While they were there, the mother-in-law passed away.
An undertaker told them .. you can have her shipped home for $5000, or you can bury her here in Holy Land for $150.”
The man thought about it and told him he would just have her shipped home.
The undertaker asked .. Why? Why would you spend $5000 to ship your mother-in-law home, when it would be wonderful to have her buried here and only spend $150?”
The man said, “A man died 2000 years ago. He was buried here and 3 days later, he rose from the dead. I just can’t take that chance.”
