From the Desk of
the Grand Knight

Council Meeting
Thursday, November 9th, 2023 – 7:00 PM

Brother Knights,

With the closing of Our Lady of Grace and Sacred Heart parishes, Father Steve from St. Francis thought it would be great to have a “Welcome to St. Francis” brunch for the new parishioners to St. Francis from the other closed parishes.  This welcome brunch was after the 11:00 mass in Shepard Hall on Sunday, October 29.  We had around 60 new parishioners and another 50 or so regulars.  It was a wonderful and welcoming event.  We, Knights of 706, served eggs, hash browns, sausages, and doughnuts, and it was a great success.

We also helped out at Muskegon Catholic on the 31st giving treats to the elementary.  We were supposed to do this in the parking lot, but Mother Nature had other plans.  It was held in the Morse Gym, and we handed out candy to about 150 students.  Everyone was dressed in their Halloween costumes.  It was fun for the kids and the adults that volunteered.  It was one of the Halloween events that wasn’t canceled that day!

Our baby diaper drive is still running strong and will continue for the next few months.  As a reminder, Council 706 has committed to collecting SIZE 4 diapers for Catholic Charities West Michigan’s Muskegon St. Gianna Baby and Toddler Boutique.  Please drop off your donation in the large blue bin at the council.  Please stop by the hall and bring those diapers.

Our next council meeting will be held on Thursday, November 9th, at 7 p.m.  The space in the council room is limited, so please arrive early so you get your seat!  Attending our monthly meeting is a great way to stay involved and informed on what is happening at Council 706.

If you can help out, please show up about 15 minutes before the 11:00 Mass.  Thank you to the Brother Knights that have been helping with this.  Our new pastor, Fr Steve, is very supportive of the Knights, so please help if you can.It looks like winter opened its ugly head again very early.  We hope all were prepared for the winter blast

October – Council Meeting:

  1. Our District Deputy, Robert Wassick, gave us the news from the State and Supreme. There are many programs/events we could be getting involved in, however most of them are quite a distance away.  The work we are doing in our community is making us active as Knights.
  2. Robert brought up two items that entailed large donations, one in GR at the Diocese Center and one in the Detroit area that was even larger dollar amount for statues of the apostles. We told him we would consider the GR project with a small donation, but said no to the Detroit project.
  3. Please plan to attend the next meeting and see what we are doing with our council.

Building Association News

Our Wednesday dinners are very well attended. The summer menu was fantastic. As we wind down to Fall and Winter watch the emails and calendar for dinners. The Wednesday before Thanksgiving is our usual Potluck Turkey Fry. We will need some volunteers to pull this off since Steve will be gone that week. Please contact Steve Tejchma to volunteer at 855-2796. If we do not get the help we will have to cancel this fun event this year.  You may also want to contact me if you can help.

From the Editors Desk

It’s a sad day, it looks like the Thursday morning golf is over.  We had a good run this year, but the weather finally beat us down.  I look forward to next year, maybe a few more of you retired folks can come join us for a round of golf.  There is no weekly commitment, just show up and we will get you golfing.  Stay tuned for next year’s announcement.

Jokes and Reflections

Impossible Questions

Preparing my son for his first day of kindergarten, we were reviewing numbers and counting.

Suddenly he asked, what is the biggest number in the world?

As briefly as possible, I tried to explain the concept of infinity.

I thought I had done pretty well, but then he said, Dad, what number comes just before infinity?

Bonus Joke this month:  Today’s Thoughts

I don’t know how to use TikTok, but I can write in cursive, do long division, and can tell time on clocks with hands…so there’s that.

FYI: your phone won’t auto correct when you’re in caps lock because it assumes you’re angry and doesn’t want to get involved

My teacher told me not to worry about spelling because in the future there will be auto correct and for that I am eternally grapefruit.

I just found out that the average person walks 900 miles a year and drinks 22 gallons of coffee. Which means the average human gets 41 miles per gallon… Not bad!

Did a little mechanics work today. Put a rear end in a recliner.

Going into a teenager’s room is like taking a trip to Ikea… you pop in just to look and end up leaving with 6 cups, 2 plates, 3 bowls, a tea towel and some cutlery.

Room for one more great story:  He Doesn’t Know the Meaning

A football coach was asked about his star lineman. The coach replied, “He doesn’t know the meaning of the word fear. In fact, I have seen his grades and there are a lot of words he doesn’t know the meaning of!”

Your lucky day, I found a short one:  It’s About My Height

Lady (to her doctor):  What I am worried about is my height and not my weight.

Doctor: How come?

Lady: According to my weight, my height should be 7 feet, 8 inches.
