DECEMBER 2022 Newsletter

From the Desk of
the Grand Knight

Council Meeting
Thursday, December 8th, 2022 – 7:00 PM

Brother Knights,

During this season of giving, I’m thankful for the organization/family that I’m a part of, the family at the Knights of Columbus 706.  It is great that during this time of year people step up and give to those who are in need, but the Knights of Columbus we are doing more during this time of year and throughout the entire year.

Our brothers & sisters are doing so much in our community from working at food trucks, first congressional breakfast, breakfasts for local parishes, volunteer work at high school athletics, volunteer work for high school theater, volunteer work at Knights to raise money for the great charities: Boys and Girls Club, Baby Food Pantry, Muskegon Catholic Central, Ambucs & Weasley School. Thank you to all, keep up all the good work and if please let me know if you are involved in the community.

December is also the month we celebrate Christmas, which means many different things to people.  Some people are busy making online purchases, while some are trying to find enough money to purchase food for dinner and coats to keep warm.  As Knights we are working hard help the ones that need our help and we continue to do this through these difficult times.  We have again decided to participate in the “Winter Gear for Kids” program and to support our food pantries of Muskegon.

We have completed the “Winter Gear for Kids” program to help put a coat on every child in our community that needs one.  Through your generous donations of coats and free-will offerings we were able to drop off over 150 coats to kids in our community.  I would like to thank you for your support of this program and for helping keep the children of our Muskegon community warm this winter.  There are a couple of individuals that have made the “Winter Gear for Kids” a great success, who shall remain nameless, but because of them the program has been a great success.  Thank you to those individuals and to all of you that have contributed to this program and to all programs.

Within the church this month, we are filled with expectations and celebration, as we prepare for the coming of the Christ Child.  This year may be the most difficult of all years to remember that fact, but let us try to remember that Jesus was born for us.  Merry Christmas to everyone.

I would ask that you add into your prayers, that God may guide our leaders and all of us to make the place we live in better than the day before.  I believe that all of us can make a difference, especially in our own community, it starts with each one of us.

Council meetings will be the second Thursday of each month and everybody is welcome and encourage to join us for our monthly meeting.  This month will be on December 8th @ 7 pm.I hope all Brother Knights and their families are doing well, but for those that are going through tough times please pray for them.  See the members in need on the website and keep them in your prayers.

Jokes and Reflections

Payment Dilemma

A customer sent an order to a distributor for a large amount of goods totaling a great deal of money.

The distributor noticed that the previous bill hadn’t been paid. The collections manager left a voice-mail for them saying, “We can’t ship your new order until you pay for the last one.”

The next day the collections manager received a phone call, “Please cancel the order. We can’t wait that long.”

Bonus Reflection:  Psalm 23 Explained

The Lord is my Shepherd – That’s Relationship!

I shall not want – That’s Supply!

He maketh me to lie down in green pastures. – That’s Rest!

He leadeth me beside the still waters. – That’s Refreshment!

He restoreth my soul – That’s Healing!

He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness. – That’s Guidance!

For His name sake – That’s Purpose!

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death. – That’s Testing!

I will fear no evil. – That’s Protection!

For Thou art with me – That’s Faithfulness!

Thy rod and Thy staff they comfort me, – That’s Discipline!

Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of my enemies. – That’s Hope!

Thou anointest my head with oil, – That’s Consecration!

My cup runneth over. – That’s Abundance!

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life. – That’s Blessing!

And I will dwell in the house of the Lord. – That’s Security!Forever! – That’s Eternity!

Had Room for Another:  Random Thoughts

A snowman, eating dessert, was asked by the waitress how he liked the carrot cake. He replied, “It tastes like boogers.”

Christmas is a race to see which gives out first – your money or your feet.

Three phrases that sum up Christmas are: Peace on Earth; Goodwill to Men; and Batteries not included.

Old age comes at a bad time! When you finally know everything, you start to forget everything you know.

I have a friend who write music about sewing machines. He’s a singer songwriter. Or sew it seams.Remember the old “i” before “e” thing.  Except when your foreign neighbor Keith receives eight counterfeit beige sleighs from feisty caffeinated weightlifters. Weird.
