Council Meeting
February 10th, 7PM
“Lent comes providentially to reawaken us, to shake us from our lethargy”
—Pope Francis
I am amazed that January has already flown by and February brings us the start of the lent. Wednesday, February 18, should be on your calendar. On Ash Wednesday, ashes will be distributed and placed on our foreheads as a symbol of our repentance during the season of Lent. We will make a spiritual journey of 40 days towards the celebration of the “Paschal Mystery”.
As you probably know, every Friday during Lent, Catholics are to abstain from eating meat. This act of ‘denying the flesh’ is a simple way of entering into the mystery of Christ’s sacrifice for us. Our participation in this act helps identify us with the passion of Christ. Even though it is a simple act of repentance, everyone should find a way of abstaining in some way from the pleasures of life that we take for granted. Any small act of abstinence, done with care, can bring powerful blessings to us.
Our council helps keep this Lenten requirement by hosting a fish fry on those Lenten Fridays. Not only does this meatless meal help us fulfill our Friday obligation, but it brings our community together. I am grateful to all our volunteers who help make this annual tradition possible and I hope to see you there.
Our council meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month, and everyone is welcome and encouraged to join us. This month’s meeting will be held on Tuesday, February 10th @ 7pm. I hope to see you here as well.

From the Editors Desk
Happy February! We made it through January. I’d like to ask for a couple of prayers in particular this month – Brother Jim Benedict went to be with our Lord and Savior. Please pray for the family during this difficult time. Also, Brother Kelly Powers underwent successful surgery on his heart. Please pray for continued healing as he recovers.

Jokes and Reflections
Joke this month (more of an inspiration this month) :
A Lesson in Heart:
A lesson in “heart” is my little, ten-year-old daughter, Sarah, who was born with a muscle missing in her foot and wears a brace all the time.
She came home one beautiful spring day to tell me she had competed in field day. That’s
where they have lots of races and other competitive events.
Because of her leg support, my mind raced as I tried to think of encouragement for my Sarah, things I could say to her about not letting this get her down.
But before I could get a word out, she said, “Daddy, I won two of the races!”
I couldn’t believe it!
And then Sarah said, “I had an advantage.”
Ah. I knew it. I thought she must have been given a head start. . .some kind of physical advantage.
But again, before I could say anything, she said, “Daddy, I didn’t get a head start … my advantage was I had to try harder!”
