Council Meeting
Thursday, June 13th, 2024 – 7:00 PM

Brother Knights of Council 706,

Deputy Grand Knight, Eric Bollman, and myself had the privilege of representing the Dan M. Kennedy Council 706 at the Michigan Knights of Columbus state meeting on Mackinaw Island this past Wednesday-Friday.  It was an action-packed 3 days to say the least.  We heard several presentations but those who were particularly impactful including Christien Polo’s presentation on Protect Life Michigan which is a pro-life youth movement on the high school and college level.  Also, Dr. Lisa Knysz’s presentation on Heart of Christ Clinic which is a clinic in the metro Detroit area that encourages non abortion alternatives along with ultra sound use.  It has been found that if a pregnant women hears her babies heart beat and see’s the baby on an ultra sound, she is far less likely to abort.  We were also fortunate enough to witness the State presenting a check of $12,000 to the head of Michigan Special Olympics.  They showed a very moving video of last years Special Olympics and all the delegates present at the conference were very proud we were associated with an organization that supported such worthy events.  The final presentation was associated with the St. Louis Center, which is a center to assist with those with intellectual disabilities and Father Aphonse gave a great presentation.

We also attended the Living Rosary in the front lawn of the Grand Hotel which was wonderful.  The Michigan Knights of Columbus is sponsoring a Living Rosary in Lansing on June 15th if anyone is interested.

The delegates from the Michigan Knights of Columbus also elected Joel Kendzorski to the position of State Warden.  Joel is from the Gaylord area and has served in various positions at his Gaylord council and has the full support Michigan and will now be serving as our new State Warden. Let’s wish him success!!

We will be having our annual Tootsie Roll drive at Saint Francis church the weekend of June 8th and 9th after each Mass.  As always, the funds collected support the mentally impaired in our community.  In the past years our funds have been going to Wesley School and ARC Muskegon.  Please help out after the Mass you attend if you are able.  If you would like to help support the drive, checks can be made out to Knights of Columbus, Council 706 at one of the Masses or drop them off at the hall.  Thank you for you support.

Last month, on May 4th we held a combined Kentucky Derby/Cinco de Mayo Party. We had a Raffle Basket was won by Merle Hilliard, congratulations Merle.  A total of $1000 worth of tickets were sold.  There were Tacos and Burritos on the menu and they were delicious, also Margaritas and Mint Juleps for the adults.  Thanks to everyone who made this a fun event.

Watch for more events during the summer months.  Our Wednesday night dinners have been a huge success.  Come join us for a great dinner and fellowship.

From the Editors Desk

We have started our golf adventure at Excalibur Golf Course and our Thursday morning group will started May 2nd.  We tee off Thursdays at 9:20 am.  If you would like to play with a great group, come on out and play.  This is just a fun group and it’s not a difficult course…just right for us retired guys.

A few of our brother Knights and family members are in need of our prayers.  We need to keep them in our prayers.  If you find your self with a few minutes, say a couple prayers for our brother’s in need.  Everyone can be a prayer warrior; God is always listening.

Jokes and Reflections

Joke of the Month:

Tea Party with Dad

One day my mother was out and my dad was looking after me.

I was maybe 2 1/2 years old and had just recovered from a bad cold.

Someone had given me a little tea set as a get-well gift and it was one of my favorite toys.

Dad was in the living room engrossed in the evening news when I brought Daddy a little cup of “tea,” which was just water.

After several cups of tea and lots of praise for such good tea, my mom came home.

Dad made her wait in the living room to watch me bring him a cup of tea. (“It’s just the cutest thing!”) My mom waited and sure enough,

I came down the hall with a cup of tea for Daddy.

She watched him drink it, then said (as only a mother would)…”Did it ever occur to you that the only place she can reach to get water is from the toilet?”

Bonus Joke this month:

Things you never want to hear them say:

Your doctor – if you don’t mind, I’m going to stay on this side of the room.

Your kid’s teacher – Lowest score in the history of the school district.

Your accountant – would you consider selling a kidney?

Your lawyer – are you the plaintiff or the defendant? I always get those two mixed up

Your plumber – how critical is hot water anyway?

Your contractor – permits, schpermits, who needs screws when you have duct tape?

Your personal trainer – I’ve had two clients die on this machine, so be careful.

Bonus Joke 2:

Six little stories with lots of meanings

Once all villagers decided to pray for rain. On the day of prayer, all the people gathered, but only one boy came with an umbrella. That is faith.

When you throw babies in the air, they laugh because they know you will catch them. That is trust.

Every night we go to bed without any assurance of being alive the next morning, but still we set alarms to wake up. That is hope.

We plan big things for tomorrow in spite of zero knowledge of the future. That is confidence.

We see the world suffering, but still, we get married and have children. That is love
