From the Desk of
the Grand Knight
Council Meeting
Thursday, July 11th, 2024 – 7:00 PM
Brother Knights of Council 706,
When folks think of summer, a lot of things come to mind……beach time, golf, and picnics just to name a few. We had a taste of summer in early June, but lately it has been more like Fall…don’t worry nice weather is still on the horizon.
The Knights of Columbus Council 706 sponsored the St. Francis parish picnic on Sunday June 23 serving over 200 parishioners and it was a wonderful event with lots of food and activities to bring the parish family together. I would like to thank fellow 706 members Bill McDermott, Tom Seastrom, Denny Chandonnet and Marc Soles for their help……we could not have pulled it off without you! I would also like to thank Steve Tejchma for his help and for the use of his grill.
In addition to the picnic, members of 706 also conducted the annual Tootsie Roll fundraiser after the Masses on June 8 and 9. Each year, Knights stand in the back of church and collect monies (in exchange for Tootsie Rolls of course) to raise money for those with intellectual handicaps. The biggest recipient of these funds are the folks at Michigan Special Olympics. This year, we raised 723.34 for this worthy cause and would like to thank all of you who donate funds. The money is sent to the State Council and 80% of it comes back to Muskegon. This year, as in the past, out funds will be divided between Wesley School and ARC Muskegon for the work they do with special needs individuals. There is still time to add your donation to the Tootsie Roll Drive. We will add the money to the Muskegon area two charities. Make your donation to K of C Council 706 and bring it to the hall and drop it off, in the memo line please put “Tootsie Roll Drive”.
July 10 Wednesday – Two Dudes in Flip Flops will be on the patio. Also, The Polish Festival will be hosting a bake sale that evening as well. Along with that enjoy Burgers on the Grill and maybe a beer or a cocktail too. Come on down and enjoy a fun night out.
July 22 Monday – Ladies Night – an evening of socialization, relaxation on the patio with snacks and cocktails for purchase. We will gather beginning at 5:30 p.m. Please bring an appetizer or dessert to share. Also, we will be hosting a Book Swap. Bring your favorite book(s) to exchange with others – bring one, take one. Any remaining books will be donated to a local library. Signature Drink: Sunshine Punch! Looking forward to a fun evening. Any questions, call Barb Langlois 231-740-5998 or Pam DeWall, 231-670-4225.

From the Editors Desk
Our golf adventure at Excalibur Golf Course is the happening place to be on Thursday mornings Our group has increased in number lately. We tee off Thursdays around 9:20 am. If you would like to play with a great group, come on out and play. This is just a fun group and it’s not a difficult course…just right for us retired guys.
A few of our brother Knights and family members are in need of our prayers. We need to keep them in our prayers. If you find yourself with a few minutes, say a couple prayers for our brothers and family in need. Everyone can be a prayer warrior; God is always listening.
Vivat Jesus,

Jokes and Reflections
Joke of the Month:
Special Order:
A man goes into a coffee shop and says, I would like one of your special breakfasts. No problem comes the reply from behind the counter.
“But I want it my way.” says the man.
“What do you mean ‘your way’?” asks the waiter.
The man says, “Well, I want the eggs only half done. I want the baked beans done so they are baking hot on the top and freezing cold on the bottom. I want the bacon stuck to the plate with grease, with more rind than actual bacon. I want fried bread so greasy that the grease pours out of it.”
“I don’t have the time to do all that!” replies the waiter.
“Well, it seemed you had the time yesterday!” answers the guest.
Bonus Joke this month:
New Job:
Charles, a new retiree-greeter at Meijer just couldn’t seem to get to work on time.
Every day he was 5, 10, 15 minutes late. But he was a good worker, really tidy, clean-shaven, sharp-minded and a real credit to the company and obviously demonstrating their “Older Person Friendly” policies.
One day the boss called him into the office for a talk. “Charles, I have to tell you, I like your work ethic, you do a bang-up job when you finally get here, but your being late so often is quite bothersome.”
“Yes sir, I know, and I am working on it.”
“Well good, you are a team player. That’s what I like to hear.”
“Yes sir, I understand your concern and I’ll try harder.”
Seeming puzzled, the manager went on to comment, “It’s odd though you’re coming in late. I know you’re retired from the Armed Forces. What did they say to you there if you showed up in the morning so late and so often?”
The old man looked down at the floor, then smiled. He chuckled quietly, then said with a grin, “They usually saluted and said: “Good morning, General, can I get your coffee sir?”
Bonus Joke 2:
Faking:
Having looked the other way for weeks, the boss finally called Smith into his office for a sit-down.
“You know, Smith,” he said, “I’ve noticed that every time you have to take your dear old aunt to her doctor’s appointments, there’s a home game over at the stadium.”
“Wow, sir. I guess you’re right,” Smith answered. “I didn’t realize it. You don’t think she’s faking it, do you?”
A random thought…
The probability of being watched is directly proportional to the stupidity of your act.
