Council Meeting
Thursday, September 14th, 2023 – 7:00 PM

Brother Knights,

September is an absolutely beautiful month, and the forecast looks awesome, with clear skies and cool nights.  Steve is serving delicious food on Wednesday evenings, so consider coming down to the club, have some great food, the beverage of your choice, and enjoy the patio (while we still can).

Also, the Wednesday night golf league is wrapping up on September 13th … the leaderboard is tight so it should be a real nail-biter finish.  If you are interested in participating in the golf league for 2024, there will be our annual meeting in late March to coordinate things, review rule modifications, etc. – so mark your calendars now.  As time gets closer and should you have any questions, feel free to contact Trent Klairter or myself as we both coordinate the league.

As a reminder, Council 706 meetings are held on the second Thursday of each month, and everybody is welcome and encouraged to join us for our monthly meeting.  This month, our council meeting will be on September 14th at 7 p.m. in the council chambers in the back room beyond the coat rack area.  There are only about 20 chairs in the back of the council room for these meetings, so they fill up fast on a first-come, first-filled basis, so plan on showing up early to grab your seat!!

Catholic Charities West Michigan is holding a Diaper Distribution Drive Thru, on September 13th at their location, 1720 Park St, Muskegon, MI.  CCWM will give out full cases of diapers, wipes, and diaper cream while supplies last to families with children in their homes who are 0-36 months old.  If you would like to get involved, please contact Karol Maurer at kmaurer@ccwestmi.org with questions on how you can help.

Another volunteer activity is the Mobile Food Pantry at First Congregational Church, 1201 Jefferson, on September 9th. It is usually on the first Saturday, but changed due to the Holiday weekend.  This is something we have helped on for some time.  Arrive around 9:15 to get organized for the 10 a.m. food distribution.  Parking is best in the old Matsons Oldsmobile parking lot on 3rd Street. Please continue to pray for all world leaders and each other.  Life and health are fragile, not guaranteed, and can disappear in a moment, so enjoy each day!

Ushering at St. Francis:

  • September 17th
  • October 8th
  • October 17th

If you can help out, please show up about 15 minutes before the 11:00 AM Mass.

Jokes and Reflections

Visit From the Pastor

A pastor went out one Saturday to visit his church members.

At one house, it was obvious that someone was home, but nobody came to the door, even though the pastor knocked several times. Finally, the pastor took out his card, wrote “Revelation 3:20” on the back of it, and stuck it in the door.

Revelation 3:20 — Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with me.The next day, the card turned up in the collection plate, addressed to the pastor.  Below the pastor’s message was the notation “Genesis 3:10 — I heard your voice in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; and I hid myself.”

Lessons from Fathers

COLUMBUS’S Father: I don’t care what you’ve discovered, Christopher. You could have written.

MICHELANGELO’S Father: Mike, can’t you paint on walls like other children? Do you have any idea how hard it is to get that stuff off the ceiling?

NAPOLEON’S Father: All right, Napoleon. If you aren’t hiding your report card inside your jacket, then take your hand out of there and prove it.

GOLDILOCKS’S Father: I’ve got a bill here for a broken chair from the Bear family. Do you know anything about this Goldie?

ALBERT EINSTEIN’S Father: But, Albert, it’s your senior picture. Can’t you do something about your hair? Styling gel, mousse, something…?

THOMAS EDISON’S Father: Of course I’m proud that you invented the electric light bulb, Thomas. Now turn off that light and get to bed!

HUMPTY DUMPTY’S Father: Humpty, If I’ve told you once, I’ve told you a hundred times not to sit on that wall. But would you listen to me? No!

Going Out…Maybe

A young girl’s parents decided to take her to visit a new church on Sunday morning.

As a small bribe, they told her that if she were good during the service, they would take her to her favorite restaurant afterward.

During the pastor’s rather fiery sermon on the destination of the good versus the destination of the evil, he asked in a rather loud voice, “And where do you think those who live a pure, just, and good life before the Lord are going to go?”

The girl stood in her seat and cried out, “To my favorite restaurant!”
