Council Meeting
Thursday, October 3rd, 2024 – 7:30 PM

Brother Knights of Council 706,

Wow, what a beautiful month of September we’ve had in so many ways…the warm weather of course and our hugely successful Turkey Dinner Fundraiser on September 18th.  I would like to thank all of you for supporting this worthy cause…Coats for Kids.  We have already started the initial distribution of coats to places like Every Women’s Place and The Boys and Girls Club which is now located in the old YMCA building.  Both organizations were extremely thankful for the donated coats that ranged in size from infant to young adults.  I took a few pictures as you can see when I dropped them off.  Council 706 will be placing another large order of coats in early October and will get those out to other organizations.  In addition to the coats, we will also be purchasing winter gloves, mittens and hats and will get those out as well.  Again, a gigantic THANK YOU to all the volunteers that helped make the Turkey Dinner Fundraiser happen and you, the great Council 706 family and the friends of 706 that came out to support.  GREAT JOB!!!!

Do you remember dropping a few dollars or coins into a jar for the “Tootsie Roll fundraiser” we had in the back of St. Francis after mass each year?  Well, we collected the funds, sent them to the Knights of Columbus state office and they returned 2 checks.  One for $200 for ARC of Muskegon, who advocates for the mentally impaired in our Muskegon community.  Second check of $320 for Wesley School.  Both organizations were extremely appreciative of the funds and will use them to continue their worthy endeavors.  Below you will see photos of Kelly Powers with the Wesley School administrators and myself with the fine people of ARC.

Ushering at St. Francis

If you can help out, please show up about 15 minutes before the 11:00 Mass.  Thank you to the Brother Knights that have been helping with this.  Fr Steve, is very supportive of the Knights, so please help if you can.

From the Editors Desk

This will be my last bulletin for the Knights of Columbus 706.  Please if you have the need to help out, please take on the role of Editor.  I will gladly give you the template to use and any other help I can give.

Thursday morning golf is in the last few weeks at Excalibur Golf Course on Thursday mornings  We tee off Thursdays around 9:20 am.  The Fall months are upon us, so golf will soon be winding down.  This is just a fun group and it’s not a difficult course…just right for us retired guys.  We do have a $2 pot from everyone that shows up and anyone can win, because we keep handicaps.

Jokes and Reflections

Joke this month:  Many Colors:

I didn’t know if my granddaughter had learned her colors yet, so I decided to test her.

I would point out something and ask what color it was.

She would tell me and was always correct.

It was fun for me, so I continued.

At last, she headed for the door, saying, “Grandma, I think you should try to figure out some of these colors yourself!”

Bonus Joke this month:  Waiting For Years:

We had built our dream house some years ago and furnished it with quality pieces as we could afford them.  Now the delivery truck carrying the last purchase, a new bedroom suite, was pulling into the driveway.

Finally! I exclaimed, flinging open the front door as the driver walked up to the house. I’ve been waiting twelve years for this!

Don’t blame me, lady, he said. I just got the order this morning.

Had Room for One More:  Wedding Announcement:

Jacob, age 92, and Rebecca, age 89, are all excited about their decision to get married. They go for a stroll to discuss the wedding and on the way they pass a drugstore. Jacob suggests they go in. Jacob addresses the man behind the counter:

‘Are you the owner?’  The pharmacist answers ‘yes.’

Says Jacob: ‘We’re about to get married. Do you sell heart medication?’  Pharmacist: ‘Of course we do.’

Jacob: ‘How about medicine for circulation?’  Pharmacist: ‘All kinds.’

Jacob: ‘Medicine for rheumatism, scoliosis? ‘  Pharmacist: ‘Definitely.’

Jacob: ‘How about Viagra?’  Pharmacist: ‘Of course.’

Jacob: ‘Medicine for memory problems, arthritis, jaundice?’  Pharmacist: ‘Yes, a large variety. The works.’

Jacob: ‘What about vitamins, sleeping pills, Geritol, antidotes for Parkinson’s disease?’  Pharmacist: ‘Absolutely.’

Jacob: ‘You sell wheelchairs and walkers?’  Pharmacist: ‘All speeds and sizes.’

Jacob says to the pharmacist: ‘We’d like to register here for our wedding gifts, please.’
